Mosaic

There are two basic methods to mosaic work - the direct method and the indirect method. In the direct method, the pieces of material you are going to mosaic with, known as tesserae, are directly fixed top side up onto a base or substrate and then grouted. In the indirect method pieces are temporarily fixed top side down onto a removable base material. This is (then) cast in its final form and the temporary base material is removed to reveal the mosaic, top side up. The indirect method is most often used when the finished surface needs to be extremely smooth.

Iwano Project ... Retrospective ... Ten Years ...

A few weeks ago i went to visit The Iwano Project Exhibition RETROX which was founded in 1999 as an international artistic author’s project by Aleksandar Pedovic, http://aleksandarpedovic.com/ an artist and designer from Novi Sad – Serbia in cooperation with Mr. Nadayuki Hasegawa and Mr. Heizaburo Iwano, the manufacturer of the famous Japanese hand-made paper.

The aim and the purpose of The Iwano Project is to join together the far east Japanese culture and tradition with our European cultural practice, thus creating a new quality and cultural products in the form of works of art which form the base of the project and a new multidimensional quality.

103 artists from 23 countries were selected for the retrospective exhibition.
Leaving my little village and going to see exhibition and meeting new friends and missing old ones who could not have come, having wonderful time at the opening was something to remember.

The exhibition featuring outstanding works were created on large scale of Japanese paper , variety of techniques and approaches, cultural and diverse influences were visible in every work...
Some traditional approaches to working with paper were explored along with works that used new technological mediums – displaying the ways in which those mediums were showing new explorations of working with and on Japanese paper.
This diverse and exciting exhibition provided interesting survey of what is happening in contemporary art across not only Europe or Asia but across the world.
With more than 100 works displayed and the exhibition catalogue which was richly illustrated with several essays and good company of artists I really enjoyed visiting and being part and seeing my work ....

My work I Mother, design name address age... was created in 2009 but the work next to mine is my favorite ....

Such new cultural product is the spirit and the product of communication between two so different civilizations, and at the same time it is a factor of regional communication, which often comes before politics as a positive impulse to cooperation and good relationships in the region and beyond.

This unique art project, the only one based in Novi Sad and Serbia, has represented our cultural area with great success through its activities, and as far as we know, there no similar project anywhere on the world which constitutes a great advantage.

In addition to the standard program, runs parallel to the concept of “Forever POLYPTYCH” – and the cyclical exhibition “Doors of Perception in the twenty-first century … which will eventually include other artists.

The Earth is a living, breathing entity. Without ongoing care
and nurturing there will be consequences too big to ignore.

Start of the year....LAND, LIFE, ART AND WORK

Start of the year 2013 was very busy, volunteers, artists and  locals  worked together , and collaboratively created so many interesting works. Permaculture and art came together.

Environmental education , use of natural and recycling  materials, learning building skills, making artistic connections between social, cultural, environmental and diverse backgrounds ... bridging our differences through artistic expressions... transforming ideas into artistic creations...
Our passion for artistic expression, our love for nature, land, sustainability, permaculture came all together and we created so many amazing objects.

Reality is that we did not create anything new, we just went back into past and connected with our elders  and our ancestors in an attempt to find balance between, past, nature, art and life.....
